  • Description:

    Who is it for?

The FMG Rock Camp is for 13-17 year olds who wish to climb real rock in a wilderness setting! We put emphasis on the climbers sharing the leadership of the group, so you decide what you want to do. The camps are for teens that are new to summer camps, or perhaps have done the big generic camps in the past and now want to specialize in just one area, rock climbing! There is no experience necessary for our camps. Because of the small group size we can cater to the individuals needs and tailor the experience to them.

Additionally, we are fielding one of the biggest suggestions we have received from parents: Family Camp.  Our third camp session is for whole families who want to climb together.  Parents get join in!  Family Camp has a much different age range.  Campers can be as young as six, and parents of all ages and abilities are welcomed.

    What do we do?

Over the duration of the camp we will climb single and multipitch climbs, rappel and boulder as well as learn about climbing equipment. We look at safe climbing practices, belaying, anchors building, placing gear and lead climbing (by employing safe 'mock leading' techniques). The camps are based in the Beautiful Pisgah National Forest at the Linville Gorge and Looking Glass Rock Area wilderness locations in North Carolina. We camp out in the forest for the duration of the overnight camps.

"After working as the Director of Outdoor Adventure Programming at one of Americas largest summer camps for over a decade I know what kids and teens want! I wanted to offer a higher level of rock climbing camp, similar to the ski, and tennis 'Pro Camps'. So I hired the best instructors and guides in the business that have years of experience working with children and teens and started the FMG Rock Camp.

We are unique as we offer small group climbing trips and balance climbing with learning techniques and safety skills. We are the ONLY AMGA Accredited Climbing School in the Southeast (only a handful of Climbing Schools in the Country have gained this Accreditation). All of our instructors and guides are certified by the American Mountain Guides Association, a minimum of 21 years old and hold Wilderness First Responder First Aid Certification as well as completing extensive extra training from FMG. No one in the summer camp industry upholds this incredibly high standard".
