  • Description:

Summer Discovery at Georgetown University in Washington D.C. offers students the opportunity to explore Washington D.C., its surrounding cities, and participate in a wide array of academic course and activities. Georgetown University was founded in 1789, the same year George Washington became the first U.S. President. Georgetown’s hilltop campus commands the same panoramic views of the Potomac River that it did over 200 years ago. Located in the quaint and famous residential village of Georgetown, the 104 acre campus is a self-contained community which combines academic excellence, superb faculty, cultural diversity, and architectural beauty. Just 1.8 miles from the White House, Georgetown’s proximity to the Capitol Hill area gives students unprecedented access to government and the “movers and shakers” of American and international policy making.

Designed as a capital of “Magnificent Distances” by Frenchman Pierre L’Enfant, Washington is comprised of 4 quadrants with the U.S. Capital at the center. Students attending Summer Discovery at Georgetown experience the best of many worlds. Georgetown is in Washington’s fashionable Northwest quadrant, a lively mix of gracious 18th and 19th century homes, cobblestone streets, brick sidewalks, contemporary cafes, coffee houses, clubs, theaters, boutiques, and the Georgetown Park Mall. The intersection of Wisconsin Avenue and M Street has been called “the most happening place on earth.”  In addition, the “Capital of the Free World” is at our doorstep with literally hundreds of museums, concerts, theater productions, athletic events and attractions to choose from. Across the river and up the road are Virginia and Maryland with excellent attractions, mountains, beaches and more.  Students will participate in a variety of activities and excursions including visits to the Smithsonian Institute and Capitol Hill, National Monuments, the Kennedy Center, weekend excursions to Baltimore, Maryland, Philadelphia, Pennsylvania and much more.
